We continue to highlight our outstanding team at Hoosier Crane with our latest employee spotlight. This time we are highlighting Derek Bukrajewski, our Service Manager.
Q: How long have you been working for Hoosier Crane?
It will be 5 years on April 16th.
Q: What do you do here at Hoosier Crane?
I assist with running all of our service branches in Elkhart, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and Chicago. I say assist because all of our service staff, even including the outside sales staff, play a major role. It is truly a team effort.
Q: What is your typical day?
It's hard to define a typical day in the service department, but a lot of it involves new project quotes, working and scheduling large and out of town jobs, working with our branches on ways we can improve and continue to move forward. Another big task is reviewing our completed jobs and making sure we have completed them in the best way possible and coming up with action items for what we can improve.
Q: What is your favorite Hoosier Crane memory?
There are a lot of favorite memories that I have from my five years with Hoosier Crane, so it's difficult to pick just one. The Hoosier Crane camping trip that Tom and Cherie hosted in August 2017 is high on the list. We brought our families and there were plenty of activities throughout the weekend that they all enjoyed. I know my kids are already asking when we are doing it this year! Tom also brought a projector and big screen so we could all watch the Mayweather fight that night outside around a campfire. It was very fun and relaxing. This is very typical of Tom and Cherie, which is why there are so many great memories. They usually plan events for all employees throughout the year and try to include our families at these events. It's one of the things that makes working for Hoosier Crane different from any other company I have worked. I know that as we grow as a company, the task of getting everyone together gets harder, but somehow Hoosier Crane always pulls something out of their hat for our families. It's great to be a part of it!
Q: What motivates you?
First and foremost, our customers motivate me. I love coming into work each and every day, being challenged with whatever is presented from our customers. The other thing that motivates me is our team. Our Service Techs, Field Installation Techs, Shop Techs, and our Sales and Office Staff. At times, their long hours and dedication may go unnoticed. I approve a lot of their time entries and I see the long hours and weekends that some of them work and can't help but feel appreciative and motivated by the job they do. It keeps me motivated to keep on striving to be the best. These people are what make Hoosier Crane!
Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy working with all of the great people we have here at Hoosier Crane. I also enjoy all of the challenges that come with this position and working with everyone here to come to the solution. There's a quote I came across that I would like to share based on attitude: "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... The remarkable thing is that we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string that we have, and that is our attitude. I am truly convinced that life is 10% what happens to us and 90% on how we react to it. And so it is with you. We are in charge of our attitudes." - Charles Swindoll
