Zech “Harry Potter” Williams wishes he was a wizard at times when working at Hoosier Crane.

“I would clone myself so I could get everything done the way I want it done and make things happen quicker,” he said.

Zech looks a lot like Harry Potter and he hears about it often. He also hears the complaints when the Hoosier Crane supply chain has some kinks in it. He is currently the company’s supply chain manager, keeping track of inventory and the flow of crane parts and other items through the system.

“I think what I like most about the job is the connection to so many different departments. I see a lot of things because of those connections.”

Zech grew up in Elkhart and has lived here almost his entire life. His family moved here from the Indianapolis area when he was very little. His parents still live in the area and he sees them fairly often. His only sibling, brother Jason, lives in Denver. Zech went to Concord schools and he also attended Indiana Wesleyan University. His grandparents, their siblings, and his mother also attended I.W.U.

“It’s like the family school,” he said.

A little more than two years ago Zech began working at Hoosier Crane, starting out as the supply chain coordinator. He has also worked as the production manager and as a senior buyer and planner.

“I love the camaraderie here, we’re really like a family at Hoosier Crane,” he said. “I also really like the company’s emphasis on giving back to the community and providing learning opportunities for kids.”

Zech will turn 29 in February. He isn’t married and does not have any children. At this point much of his life revolves around work. But when Zech isn’t replacing missing links in the Hoosier Crane supply chain or pounding out some of the kinks, he likes to be outside hiking or kayaking. He says he also loves to golf and fish. If he’s outside he says he feels free. His favorite quote comes from the great football coach Vince Lombardi:

“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.”
